  • An approach to trauma management
  • Essential equipment & resources
  • Principles of Major Incident Management
    • Methane reports
    • Reading the scene
    • Radio usage
  • Live Extrication – car crash involving local services (SES, SAAS, CFS)
  • Packaging the trauma patient (with live patients)
  • Scene safety
  • Skills stations
    • Airway/Pre-hospital Anaesthesia
    • Management of Chest Trauma
    • Intraosseous/IV Access (rapid expansion)

On completion of this workshop, participants will:

  1. Be familiar with the principles of major incident triage, including prioritising patients and patient care and safety
  2. Be prepared and confident to manage a major incident scene, by having an   ‘Accident Management Plan’ ready to implement
  3. Know what the common trauma situations are likely to be at a major accident scene and be familiar & confident in practical intervention on site
  4. Understand retrieval requirements, communicate details and be able to implement initial treatment
