Invitation

The Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Australian and New Zealand Spinal Cord Society (ANZSCoS) will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 1 – 3 September 2010. The theme is ‘From Injury to Empowerment – Aiming to Get It Right’.

We have developed an exciting academic and social program which we hope will interest consumers and professionals alike. You will have the opportunity to meet with friends and colleagues from around Australia and New Zealand including rehabilitation physicians, spinal surgeons, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, psychologists, exercise physiologists and physical educators, rehabilitation engineers and people engaged in many facets of research as well as consumers and their carers.

Our Keynote speakers are Professor Martin Ferguson-Pell and Professor Marcalee Sipski Alexander. They will be joined by a variety of other speakers. The Spinal Cord Injury Network will sponsor a symposium on current basic research in spinal cord injury which will include a panel discussion involving researchers and consumers. There also will be a symposium on sexual function and relationships after SCI.

Adelaide is known for its wonderful restaurants, good coffee, interesting art galleries, live music of all types, great football teams and other sporting pursuits, and beautiful parks and gardens. The Torrens River is just outside the Convention Centre, the Festival Centre and Casino are both just next door and the Adelaide Zoo, complete with pandas, is close by. South Australia is famous for its wineries and many of these are less than an hour from the City Centre by car. The Adelaide Hills and parts of the Heysen (walking) trail are even closer.

On behalf of the 2010 Organising Committee, I am delighted to invite you to join us in Adelaide for this important event which is being well supported by our industry and NGO partners. We know you will have a great time and look forward to seeing you in September.
