The Scientific Program Committee invites you to submit abstracts of original research for presentation at the Congress. The abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Program Committee.
Abstract Preparation Guidelines
Enter your abstract by typing it in structured form with headings of:
- Purpose – An introductory sentence or indicating the purpose of the study
- Method – A brief description of methods
- Results – A summary of new data arising from this study
- Conclusion – A conclusion and context statement
- References, if critical to the abstract – Use limited detail (Smith, JA 1999).
- Disclosure of conflict of interest such as affiliations with sponsoring companies
The Program Committee will not consider abstracts that are not submitted in structured form.
It is suggested therefore that the abstract be typed in Word then cut and pasted into the box provided in the database.
Please note that the maximum word count is 250 words.
General Information
- Original abstract must be submitted by 14 June 2010.
- Obtain consent from co-authors prior to submission.
- Only abstracts submitted in English will be reviewed.
- NB: Abstracts will not be reviewed if not in structured form or if word count exceeds 250 words.

Presentation Types – Paper Only; Poster Only; Paper or Poster
During the abstracts submission process, you will be required to indicate your presentation type preference. This will be a mandatory question during the review process. If you choose ‘Paper’, then the committee can only judge on this; if you choose ‘Paper or Poster’ then if not selected for oral presentation, it may still be selected for a poster.
You will automatically receive confirmation of your submission via email after you tick ‘continue’.
Editing
Upon setting up your account, you will receive an email confirming your password. You can use this Login later to log back into your abstract to edit it if you wish. Editing, however, will not be possible after the closure date of 14 June 2010.
Minimal research data updates may be incorporated at the first proof reading if submitted to the Congress Secretariat as a Word attachment by early September.
You may submit more than one abstract.
If you wish to submit more than one abstract, please log back into the system and follow the same prompts.
Abstracts will be assessed by the Scientific Program Committee and the outcome of your submission will be notified to you by mid-July 2010.
All presenters of accepted abstracts will be expected to register for the Congress. If unable to attend, you will be expected to organise another to present your paper. Authors who fail to present will be penalised.
The deadline for early bird registration is 30 September 2010.
Abstract Publication
All abstracts accepted for presentation will be published in the Congress Abstracts
Audio Visual and Other Presentation Requirements
Oral presentations are to be Rapid Fire and will be allocated 3 minutes for presentation followed by 2 minutes for questions. PowerPoint data projection with single screens will be available in all session rooms.
Poster authors will be asked to stand by their poster during the scheduled poster presentation times. Authors will be notified of these.
Full and additional details will be included in the acceptance letter, which will be emailed and mailed to the first author in July 2010.
Confirmation of receipt of Abstract
