Transport
Public transport
Brisbane’s fully-integrated public transport network offers a cost-effective option for road, rail and river travel. Spanning the South-East Queensland corner, the TransLink system represents one of the largest public transport networks in the world.
Tickets
The TransLink go card – Brisbane’s most common and convenient public transport payment option – is a pre-purchased electronic travel card that operates on a “touch-on touch-off” system on all TransLink bus, train and ferry services. Go cards can be purchased at hundreds of retail locations across South-East Queensland and at train station ticket offices, online or by calling TransLink. As an alternative, single paper tickets can be purchased from fare machines, on board most buses and ferries and at train station ticket offices.
Bus services
With 400 bus routes and more than 12,600 stops, TransLink’s modern fleet of buses connect all corners of the city and key community spots such as shopping centres, train stations and ferry terminals. Special services to note include the free Loop buses, CityGlider buses and NightLink buses.
The Loop free bus services
For inner-city travel, Brisbane’s free Loop bus services are a quick and convenient alternative to taxis and pavement pounding.
- Brisbane City Loop buses circle the central business district in two directions running every ten minutes from any red city bus stop. Operating hours: Monday to Friday 7:00am to 6:00pm.
- Spring Hill Loop buses provide a link between the city and Spring Hill precinct with frequent services operating from yellow bus stops. Operating hours: Monday to Friday 6:50am to 6:05pm.
CityGlider
The popular CityGlider buses are pre-paid high frequency services that link the inner-city suburbs with other travel services such as NightLink.
Operating hours: Sunday to Thursday 5:30am to 11:30pm; Friday and Saturday 24-hours.
NightLink Services
In addition to standard bus and train services, TransLink offers public transport users special NightLink services on Friday and Saturday nights. Operating out of the central business district and Fortitude Valley, the services provide a late night travel option on selected transport routes.
Train services
With a comprehensive network that extends across ten lines and more than 130 stations, the local electric rail network provides easy access to key destinations including the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Roma Street Transit Centre, South Bank and Suncorp Stadium. Coastal destinations and popular attractions such as Dreamworld | WhiteWater World and Australia Zoo are also well serviced through the rail network and dedicated bus connections.
CityCat and ferry services
A beloved part of the Brisbane River landscape, Brisbane’s CityCats (high-speed catamarans) and ferry services connect commuters to key destinations along the river including the Eagle Street Pier, New Farm Park, Portside Wharf, South Bank and The University of Queensland. Always quick and easy, the CityCats and ferries are also a great way to see the city sights.
