This session aims to extend your knowledge about key issues associated with iron deficiency and its treatment. Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies in Australia and remains one of the most under diagnosed conditions in general practice.

At the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the diagnosis of iron deficiency based on laboratory testing
  • Compare the indications for the use of intravenous iron infusion versus oral iron supplements
  • Accurately administer intravenous iron infusion to ensure patient safety
