This activity aims to explore the basic sleep patterns of children and adolescents, the prevalence of the different types of sleep disorders and how to screen for and assess them. A focus will be on obstructive sleep apnea and snoring, and parasomnias such as sleep walking, terrors, confusional arousal nightmares. The management options are also discussed along with the situations where referral to specialty services might be appropriate.

• Explain how to screen for paediatric sleep disorders
• Describe management options to address paediatric sleep disorders, including referral pathways
